Janelle's death was preventable. She saw multiple medical providers on four separate occasions and attempted to advocate for herself in the 3 weeks leading up to her death. Besides this unimaginable loss and the trauma suffered by her family as a result, we strongly believe her death was the result of egregious medical negligence and we are in the process of seeking legal counsel while also making the arrangements to celebrate her life and lay her to rest. I humbly ask for love, support and respect for my family, especially her parents as we navigate this painful new reality. Donations will go towards memorial costs and legal services so that money won’t be a barrier to thoroughly investigating how this tragedy happened. We hope Janelle's story will spark meaningful change and we hope to make future contributions to medical advocacy resources for Black women. Black women deserve high quality health care services. We deserve to be believed the FIRST time. Our pain is real. We are forever changed.
